More Stitching... not knitting
So I have been a little busy in the evenings working on things, but alas its not knitting. You see a little while ago I happend to be in the craft section of my local walmart, browsing around. and I saw these cute little kits

Two little care bear cross stitch kits, and I have always wanted to try cross stitch. And they seemed small and not so intimidating. And they were reduced to like TWO DOLLARS EACH!!! So How could I not try? One Carebear for each of my girls. Love a lot for Rachel the sensitive one, and Funshine bear for Rena the "sunny" active one.
Well, for two dollars you dont get great instructions and the first attempt looked pitiful. Ok, it looked like crap.
It just so happens that a new friend of my had mentioned she knew cross stitch. I told her of my failed attempt and asked if I brought it to her would she show me what I am doing wrong. She did me one better. She brought me a little hoop (who knew?) to hold the fabric while I stitch, and lent me and instruction book and a pattern book to get me going. AND she brought me some fabric to practice on and replace the stuff I F**ck*d up the first Care Bear on. So I followed the instructions in the book for practice and got this...

Turtles!!! So cute! So I started the carebear again, and now it looks like this...

You can see that according to the picture, I'm not doing that bad at all!!!!
I went to Michaels on the weeked to pick up some yarn (of course) and found this great little plastic box for organizing the colored floss you use for cross stitch, and it was only 1.97!!!!! can you believe it!!! and I picked up a variety bag of floss for like 5 bucks, so ....

Not an expensive investment at all.... Oh gosh, I smell another hobby, Christ, thats just what I need!!!! Ah well, it could be worse. My hobbies could involve illegal substances and pipes so I think I'm doing alright!!!!!!
So um, are there any other Cross Sitchers out there??
And a big should out to TAMMY! If you hadnt have saved me from crappy cross stitch hell I may have put down this great little hobby forever! instead I am now feindishly keeping my eyes open for floss....... Hmmmm. I'm going to need some new containers.....

I love cross stitch..I've been doing it for almost 30 years! It's very addictive, but I'm too into my sock knitting right now. It doesn't stop me from having way too much x stitch books and patterns....Oh, well!

I cross-stitch also. I also have too much floss, just like I have too much sock yarn. [g] It's a nice hobby and comes in handy when I'm in a knitting slump. It's been awhile, though.

Yup, yup I dabble in cross stitch too but I haven't picked it up in years! I also tend to need the stamped pattern to guide me as I'd be totally lost trying to free hand it! Your care bear and turtles are adorable though! You are doing a great job!

You're doing great...My grandmother taught me to cross stitch when I was young, and I was *so* addicted to it. It was like solving a puzzle, a hobby, an art, something to do when you're bored, all in one! Since then i've moved on to knitting, but recently i saw some gorgeous cross-stitch kits at a store. They were designed by the shop owner and produced really beautiful pieces. I would love to do something like that again, but it would take forever! My grandmother used to do those kinds of big projects, with complex shading and shadowing, with dozens of different shades of floss. Pretty cool!

Your cross stitch looks fantastic! I cross stitch on occasion too. I love the little organizer box you have. I will have to head over to Michael's and see if I can find one for me. :)

I am glad I could help. I love cross-stitching and would happily bring over my friends to take it up too.
The new Care Bear looks great!
Don't you just love those floss organizers? I have two that are over-full with floss. A helpful hint, be sure to write the color number of the floss on the floss cards so you can keep track of what colors you have and what you need, especially once you get involved in bigger projects.
